20/5/16

My work is now on display at our Degree Show which is open from May 28th-June 12th. Photos can be viewed in 'Degree Show'.

14/5/16

Today was the photoshoot for the garments I have designed and created. Photos can be viewed in 'Garments'.
Modelled by Emily Rose Cornthwaite.

9/5/16

Again, I pinned different fabrics onto the mannequin to see exactly how the next garment would be pieced together.

2/4/16

I chose some of my fabrics and pinned them onto the mannequin to give myself more of an idea of how I wanted my garments to look.

25/4/16

To develop the sequin idea I decided to print an image onto the acetate with the intention of seeing the image through the monofilament on the front bed of knitting.

18/4/16

Today I chose one of my plant cell-inspired designs to create a type of sequin that would be placed into my knitting. In order to speed up the process of inserting the sequins, I constructed a thin strip to attach all the sequins together; making it quicker and easier to place the sequins into my knitting.

14/4/16

Today I presented my project up to date to my tutors and fellow students. This session was extremely helpful as the feedback given was positive and I was given fresh ideas of how to develop my fabrics. I was also encouraged to consider more carefully how my garments were going to be developed and styled.

13/4/16

Before knitting the fabrics for my garments I used jersey to measure how much fabric I would actually need.

This storyboard shows the main images of my inspiration, a few of my sketches, some of my trend research and a sample of my knitting.

4/4/16

Today was spent experimenting with laser cutting my own sequin design using acetate.

I created a mood board displaying my original inspiration, my designs, my chosen colour palette and inspiration for my garments.

I wanted my fabrics to be textured so I spent a while trialling different thicknesses of monofilament with a selection of my yarns.

14/3/16

With my colour palette and yarns decided, I was able to experiment more with texture and see which colours worked better together.

7/3/16

I wanted monofilament to be a strong theme in my collection of fabrics so I chose a few types of lace, that represented plant cell images, to be dropped into tubular pockets of monofilament.

Before deciding on my colour palette I drew all my designs in black and white so that I could focus on pattern rather than being distracted by colour.

17/2/16

This week I visited 'Premiere Vision' in Paris where I was researching the trend forecast for fashion in 2017/2018. This filled me with inspiration for my own project and helped shape the direction in which my fabrics were to go.

This is a mood board drawing together the inspiration for this project - plant cells.
